Susan Page Davis ~ Interview + Giveaway!

*You can earn up to 4 entries in this giveaway. Read below for details*

Today author Susan Page Davis is telling us about her new book, Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island, Canada (April 2011). She has offered an autographed copy of her book to one lucky commenter. She will also be stopping by throughout the week to answer your questions! So if you have anything you want to ask her, you can leave a comment on this post to find out the answer!

Author bio:
Susan Page Davis is the author of more than 30 novels in the historical romance, mystery, romantic suspense, and romance genres. Her latest electronic book, Mailbox Mayhem, includes a story originally published in Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine and a companion story. A Maine native, Susan lives in western Kentucky with her editor husband Jim and the two youngest of their six children. Visit Susan at her Website: http://www.susanpagedavis.com/

Welcome, Susan! Tell us about your salvation experience.
I was saved as a child after attending Vacation Bible School. My parents were young Christians, and I grew up in church. At VBS I understood that I needed to receive Christ personally.

How do you handle disasters/BIG problems? Do you have a funny or interesting story showcasing how you handle them?
Not very well. I prefer to be prepared, but sometimes life knocks you silly. I usually cry, pray, and get some advice from people wiser than I am.

Tell us something surprising about yourself that readers may not know.
I once tied a murderer’s necktie. I was reporting on the trial for a newspaper and after the lunch break I went back into the courtroom early. No one else was back yet except the defendant and his guard. The guard was trying to help the man tie his tie, but was having trouble doing it “backward.” He asked if I could tie one on another person, so I did it. Later that day, the defendant was convicted of murder.

What is one book that you recently read and would recommend to your readers?
I just read Raider’s Heart, by Marcia Gruver, in her new Backwoods Brides series. I enjoyed it a lot. Now I’m starting to read The Amish Midwife by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould. I know I’m going to love this one, too.

What is your favorite time of day to write?
Morning. I droop late in the day. Definitely a morning person.

If you compared your writing style to any other Christian Fiction author, who would it be? Also, how would you rate the romance in your books?
My romance is mostly G-rated. In my new book, Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island, it’s definitely a “proper” romance. I am not sure whose stories mine would compare with—possibly DiAnn Mills.

What are you working on now or going to write next?
I just finished writing Captive Trail, a historical set in 1857 Texas. It’s part of the new Texas Trails series from Moody. The series will open in August, with Darlene Franklin’s book, Lone Star Trail, then my Captive Trail, and then Vickie McDonough’s The Long Trail Home in October. In spring 2012, three more books will release: Darlene’s A Ranger’s Trail; my Cowgirl Trail; and Vickie’s End of the Trail. We’re very excited about this new series, following the Morgan family through six decades of Texas history.

Book’s back cover blurb:
Prince Edward Island pulls out all the stops to prepare for the visit of Prince Albert Edward (Queen Victoria’s son, later King Edward VII) in 1860. Molly Orland, a farmer’s daughter, is hired as a housemaid at the governor’s mansion, where the prince and his entourage will stay. Peter Stark is sent ahead of the royal party to ensure the arrangements are in order. Though Peter and Molly are attracted to each other, there seems to be no future for them, since Peter must soon leave with his master, the Earl of Washburn, and Molly will lose her job if discovered to be engaging in a flirtation with one of the visitors. However, Molly’s family harbors a secret that connects her family to Washburn’s. Can she and Peter overcome the past and set right a 60-year-old wrong?

What research did you have to do for this book?
I visited Prince Edward Island and went to many of its historical sites (and Green Gables, of course). I spent some time researching at the archives in Charlottetown and also visited Province House (known as the Colonial Building in the time of my story), where a ball was held for the prince in 1860. I also visited museums and saw the governor’s mansion, as well as enjoying the natural beauty of the island. When I got home I used many books and the Internet to continue my research.

How can readers get in contact with you?
My Website is at: www.susanpagedavis.com and I’d love to see you there!

Is there anything you would like to add, or tell your readers?
I am giving away a copy of Love Finds You in Prince Edward Island here, and I also give away several books each month on my Website (winners choose the book they want).

Thanks, everybody. I love the cover, too. I showed them a painting of the 1864 ball held in the same room as the prince's ball and they gave Molly a gown similar to one in the painting for me.

Thanks, friends old and new. And yeah, I guess my courtroom experience was kinda crazy--I thought so at the time. I don't tell that story often, and it always makes people blink. Maybe I should put it in a book. You just never know what will happen, do you?
